You are welcome to our new website. The Philosophy of the Department of Agricultural Economics is to train all-round graduates who can inhabit several positions and functions as job-creators and/or employees. The Department hopes to prepare graduates to meet the encounters of the new millennium.
The Department centers on the business and economics of agriculture with efforts directed in the areas such as Economics of Agricultural production, Agribusiness and marketing, finance, Agricultural project appraisal, Farm management, Resources Economics and formulation of agricultural policy. These programmes in the department are tailored to meeting the needs and aspirations of the labour market as well as a growing body of promising entrepreneurs. The production of agricultural commodities to meet domestic and International market demand standard along with remunerative occupation to our graduates have remained the central idea of the Department over the years. Our programmes have been dynamic to accommodate for these changing needs.
However, the Department of Agricultural Economics also focuses on National Agricultural Growth through Teaching and Research. This could only be accomplished with well trained personnel in the field of Agricultural Economics at both graduate and postgraduate levels. The Department has well-informed teaching staff with local and international exposure and the current programme of the Department allows for the production of qualitative manpower that are well suited for key and leading positions in the Society. Students are fortified with tools that enable them in planning for effective and efficient use of management resources with Propensity Building in terms of Productivity, Policy Invention and Innovative Agricultural Resource Management.
It is therefore my pleasure to invite you to explore our website for your benefit and information. Please feel free to meet the Head of Department on specific issues about our programmes, admission requirements, research, workshops, seminars and other things of academic interest.
