UTME Entry Requirements:
Credit passes at GCE ‘O’ Level or School Certificate or Senior Secondary School Certificate (S.S.S.C) in English Language, Mathematics and at least three other subjects which must include Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science.

UTME Subjects:
English Language, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Direct Entry to Part One:
Candidates with Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Agriculture obtained at Upper Credit Level from this University or any other recognized institution of equivalent status may be considered for Direct Entry to Part 1, but they will not be exempted from the Internship year.

Direct Entry to Part Two:
1. Two ‘A’ Level Passes in Chemistry and any of Biology, Agricultural Science, Zoology and Botany.
2. Candidates with Higher National Diploma in Agriculture obtained at Upper Credit Level from this University or any other recognized Institution of equivalent status may be considered for Direct Entry to Part II provided they satisfy the ‘O’ Level requirements. They may also be exempted from the Internship year.

Academic Programme1. Introduction:
The Department of Agricultural Economics started offering Postgraduate Courses in the 1969/1970 Academic year. To this end, it has developed a core of highly experienced personnel in the different special areas of the discipline.

2. Objective of the Programme:
Graduate study in Agricultural Economics is intended to enable participants to qualify as professional workers in Agricultural Economics through intensive study of theory, analysis, and methodology in relation to the problems of economic organization and development of agriculture. Each student is required to choose a special field of concentration.

. The Degrees to be Offered
In response to the changing needs, in terms of agricultural demand services of our constantly changing society, the Department offers two degrees the M.Sc. and the Ph.D. Programmes. The time-period of each degree is as follows:

(i) A minimum of three semesters for M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics based on course work plus thesis.
(ii) A minimum of 6 semesters for Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Economics based on course work with a Ph.D. thesis based on an intensive independent research after the Master’s degree.

4. Admission Requirements:

A. M.Sc. Degree Programme
An applicant for admission to the Master’s degree programme in the Department shall be:
(i) A graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OR
(ii) A graduate of any other approved University.
An applicant for the M.Sc. degree programme under regulation 4(A)(i) and (ii) above shall, normally possess not lower than a Second Class Lower Division degree to be eligible for admission. In exceptional cases, candidates with lower degree classification or those whose degree are not normally classified may be considered under certain conditions and must satisfy the conditions stipulated in regulation 10(6) of the Postgraduate Colllege.

B. Ph.D. Degree Programme:
An applicant for admission to the Ph.D. degree programme in the Department shall be:
(i) A graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University or any other approved University who possess a Master’s degree with research thesis and a weighted course work average which shall normally not be less than 60% (B+).
(ii) In exceptional cases, a candidate whose weighted coursework average is less than 60% may be required to take such examination(s) as shall be prescribed. The Board shall approve the result of such examination(s).
In what constituted exceptional cases, the Board shall determine.
